CURATORS’ NOTE
9 Acts of Remembering
Imagine a place that makes you feel the happiest.
A crowded beach, a shopping mall, and my hometown.
It changes throughout the week, month, and year.
Someone has lost ways of knowing how to feel, and rekindling with those places was the closest thing she had to not forgetting who she used to be.
We heal by putting our heads down and trying to remember. An act so deeply rooted in compassion toward a person, our roots, shared memories, and hidden histories. This work brings together Indonesian artists who collectively reclaim hope from personal and lived experiences.
At a time when the world seems to move forward, holding on to these friends’ work gives me a sense of freedom to take my own time, even if it means just walking slowly hand-in-hand, not looking ahead..
What are we running towards?
What are you trying to forget?
