CURATORS’ NOTE
Some say the pandemic has created its own clock. It has distorted our sense of time. Past, present, future all blend together and are intensified in the virtual space. Confused about reality, our brains are blabbering words to contemplate the time and space we wish to orientate ourselves, long for making a relationship or probably a simple connection. The words are uttered, shrieked in these ephemeral walls, echoed and shattered into pieces, sometimes coherent, usually inarticulate; create a sense of existence, or crack up in the silence.
Corruption, state surveillance, anxiety, violence, protest at ‘now’ or ‘Pre-Corona world’ are constructing hypothetical ‘new realities’ or predictable ‘fictions’ every day. This is a collection of works by the artists who inquire about the time in which we find our bearings and our ways of claiming shares in spaces-virtual & physical. They question the role of their own body, dissect the anatomy and analyze what is being marked and what left unmarked, and in the process, who is watching, constructing falsehoods, and who is being watched. The works draw profoundly on personal experiences of past, present, and imaginary futures.

Interview with Sadia Marium
Read the interview by Tan Lee Kuen with Sadia Marium about what inspired the creation of this showcase and the act of curating from an open call during a pandemic.
“I was looking for the contemplation of this time and space we exist and imagine… a pause, juncture, breathing spaces, undefined aspects of life.”
CURATOR BIOGRAPHY
Sadia Marium dreamed of being a filmmaker, found herself as a Merchandiser and presently works as an independent photographer based in Dhaka. Sadia’s practice pollinates with the process of creating photographs, video and alternative printing methods. ‘Intrusion’ intrigues her the most. Ordinary characters, unremarkable memories, spaces and objects are the protagonists of her works to trace the overlap of reality & fiction, private & public. After her Bachelors in Marketing, Sadia studied Professional Photography at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh and now teaching at the same institute. She aspires to become a stand up comedian.
