Behind-the-scenes at Anjali Photo Workshop 2015

If you see a group of curious children and youths photographing all over Siem Reap from today, do wave to say hello to our Anjali Photo Workshop participants! During the 10-day workshop, which officially starts today, children from Anjali House are taught to use photography as a form of creative expression, with fun excursions in and around Siem Reap (big thanks to AboutAsia for kindly loaning us coasters for the kids!). Anjali House is an NGO supporting under-privileged children through education, healthcare and the arts.

The workshops help the children gain confidence, be aware of their surroundings and understand their own lives through photography – Paolo Patrizi

Our volunteer tutors will work with over 40 children on how to operate compact digital cameras (kindly sponsored by i-Qlick Canon) and use photography to tell stories or express themselves.

“The workshops help the children gain confidence, be aware of their surroundings and understand their own lives through photography,” says photographer and workshop coordinator Paolo Patrizi.

This is Paolo’s sixth year with the workshop and he remains as enthusiastic about teaching the kids. “I get a lot of pleasure out of looking at their photos. You get a lot of surprises and insights into real-life Cambodia. Being young and without preconceptions, they are very natural in their approach, which can be a great reminder for adults.”

The workshop will culminate in the much anticipated Children’s Day on December 10th, where the kids join with festival attendees in a special day dedicated to the young and young-at heart. This year, it’ll be extra special as we are going to the circus!
