Two People

” These pictures are of my mother and father. They are the first people I know, and the only people who occur to me without my own choosing.
As I grow up they get older. One day they will no longer be around. I photograph them so that when that day comes, I will have many photographs of them.
The thought that they will one day die makes me sad and I channel this sadness into my image making. I think being a photographer means one has to constantly confront the idea of death and loss.
Every picture is a trace of something that once was. We make pictures in the present, to look at them in the future, and have them tell us about our past. ”
