First Generation is an ongoing project about the first generation of Afro-French women in France. The years between 1975 and 1980 marked the beginning of African immigration into France, resulting in the first Afro-French generation being born in France. This project aims to speak about this developing national identity through the lives of these women, and tries to understand how they relate to the incipient reference of their mixed origins while living in a culture that is deeply anchored in historical tradition.
