Military Days

Ta Nguyen Hiep

“Military training will turn you into a bad boy”, I was warned. It was where taking photos means you had to be sly with your camera. I choose to be innocent in a contaminated environment, as a way to satisfy my passion for photography and document my youth full of excitement and adventure.

Ta Nguyen Hiep’s father is a studio photographer. When he turned 14, his father let him tinkle with a Pentax camera for the first time, showing him how to load film rolls and and taking him to printing labs. His love for images started from there.

At the age of 17, he enrolled in Cinematography majoring at the Academy of Theater and Cinema then moved to Film directing. He cherishes moments when the audience is moved by his images and stories.
