2019 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Are you an emerging Asian photographer looking to take your visual storytelling skills to the next level?

Apply for the Angkor Photo Workshops!

The Angkor Photo Workshops is an annual tuition-free professional workshop for up-and-coming Asian photographers with the aim of nurturing each individual’s unique vision and approach to the medium of photography.

Each year, 30 participants are selected from across the region to join us in Siem Reap, Cambodia, for an intensive week-long workshop conducted by renowned professional photographers who volunteer their time and expertise to be a part of this educational initiative and experience.

Participants will rise to the challenge of completing one photo story each during the workshop. The tutors will guide you through all the stages – from conceptualising story ideas and refining your personal approach, to improving your techniques and the final, important step of picture editing. We believe in diversity and originality, and we want you to develop your own unique photographic style and vision. Our goal is to help students in their practice of the medium with respect to their individual interests and ambitions so as to fulfill their potential to be autonomous creators rather than being consumers of photography.

Application is free and our workshops are open to photographers of all Asian nationalities, with no age restrictions. Before filling in our online application form, please read our Application Guide & F.A.Q. for more information on eligibility criteria and how to apply.

We believe in keeping our workshops affordable and accessible. This is why we do not charge a fee for the workshops, and eligibility is based on ability and the spirit of meritocracy.

Application Opens 1st May 2019

Deadline: 30th June 2019, 5pm (GMT+7)

Application results will be announced by mid-August 2019.

F.A.Q

Q: Am I a “student” or am I a “professional?”

A: You qualify as a ‘student’ if you are currently enrolled in a university or college. Graduate students are considered to be professionals. You qualify as a ‘professional’ if you have been working as a photographer for a few years (including full-time positions, freelance assignments and internships) but still feel you have relatively limited professional experience and want to develop your craft further.

Q: I’m a freelance photographer who did not attend any photography courses, and have never worked as a full-time professional. Do I qualify?

A: Our workshops are prioritized for those intending to work as professional photographers. You may still apply, if this is your aim with the workshop.

Q: Which nationalities can apply?

A: Click to view the list of countries.

Q: What kind of photographs should I include in my portfolio?

A: Your portfolio can have a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20 images, and it should reflect your vision and style as a photographer. Images can be either singles, or a full story, or a mix of both. The most important thing is to show us your strongest work that best represents you as a photographer.

Q: Who is going to be my tutor?

A: We will announce our 2019 Tutors line-up shortly. Participants will be selected by tutors, and the tutors’ choices are final. If you are selected, you will be immediately informed about who your tutors are.

Q: I can’t be in Siem Reap for the entire duration. Can I come later or leave earlier?

A: No, we require all participants to be present for the full duration so as to benefit from the complete experience of the workshops.
